The Marks of A Great Network Marketing Leader

The Characteristics of a Great Network Marketing Leader

Do you know there are a few great network marketing leaders whose organizations span for thousand of miles. The organizations stretch over 3 continents and numbers over 2 million distributors. What's amazing about this phenomenon is the fact that their organizations had started with just one person. How many? One! Yes, you heard me right. It started with just him, the leader!
So what spurred him to start it off in the first place. Is it love of money? Try interviewing one of these leaders and you will be surprised! You see, for most of us , we build a business for money. But to these leaders, money does not motivate them anymore. They have started looking for more subtle meanings to life, namely the drive to help others, for charity and the spirit of giving back to society.
If you trace back to the time when he first started his business, he may have started for the same reason that you and I might have started our business, namely:
  • To be our own boss.
  • To be paid over what we are worth, not what the company thinks we are worth.
  • To have control over our time.
  • To spend more quality time with our family.
  • To have more holidays
  • To use the magical term 'Leverage'
Like other leaders, he becomes a great network marketing leader after undergoing a strict regime of:
  • Having a coach.
  • Having a definite amount of time each day to build the business.
  • Having a clear well-defined goal.
  • Having a complete understanding of his company, products and compensation plan.
  • Having a burning desire to carve a meaning to his life.
Did I say you need to have a coach? Definitely! This is crucial because a good coach can see a much larger vision of what you need to do to achieve your goals. A good coach will remind you of the targets that you had set for yourself once he sees you being sidetracked by the numerous distractions that had plagued many other lesser souls.

The Power of Persuasion in Your Work and in Your Life

When you are at the office, you obviously have colleagues. Your colleagues are also eyeing for that managerial position. So how do you compete? You have to resort to subtle strategies to ensure you are being seen by the boss.

Some strategies that may help include:

  1. When you are submitting a report or a brief to your boss, print an extra copy and CC it to his boss.
  2. Always be the first to arrive at the office and the last to leave.
  3. When it is time to clean up the office, be a volunteer and clean up not just your desk but  everybody's.
  4. When one of your colleauges seek your opinion, give him your best advice. Don't hold anything back.
Outside the office, there are limitless opportunities for you to use persuasion to your advantage.
  • In the Mall. Negotiate your way to the best bargain.
  • At the Railway Station. Get new prospects for your business.
  • At your child's school. Get to know other parents.
  • At the movies. Get the best seats available.
Using the power of persuasion can eventually be second nature to you. Just remember not to abuse this Power.

How to use the art of persuasion in your life

To observe the art of persuasion in real life, it would be interesting to note the antics displayed by Bobby Fischer. Fischer is arguably the greatest chess player who ever lived. Obviously he was the strongest player in his time. But what made him great was not only his playing skills but also his persuasion skills. In Reykjavík, Iceland, 1972, he made headlines all over the world not so much on his superb playing skills but also  on his weird behavior.

He lost the first game when he pushed one of his bishop deep into the enemy's territory, which then got trapped. He then forfeited the second game and threatened to leave Reykjavik immediately. This caused an uproar in the American chess camp. The match organizers went frantic trying to cajole him into staying and continuing to play.

Basically he complained about:

  1. The level of noise in the playing hall. It turned out that the noise came from the main camera that was recording the match.
  2. The front spectators were too close to the players. He insisted that at one point he could actually hear a man snoring in the audience.
  3. The hall was too warm even after the airconditioning experts verified that the temperature was just right. Maybe it was too cold which explained the 'snoring' above.
As expected, every relevant personnels went frantically to fix the problems. But Fischer continued to complain and even threatened to quit the Championship if playing conditions did not improve. The complaining went on for many more days despite all effort done to rectify the conditions.

Soon after, the Soviet team got the message. Fischer was an eternal complainer. This was possibly done as a  deliberate attempt to put pressure on Spassky so that he(Spassky) would lose focus on the games being played. Much to the disappointments of many spectators and the whole world watching the games LIVE, these antics actually worked. The famous 'poker-faced' Spassky eventually crumbled under the pressure. As the games continued, spectators could clearly see the face that used to show no emotion now became contorted frequently. Even his pace had lost the familiar air of confidence and he could be seen wavering at times.

It became clear that the enigmatic well-mannered Spassky had been brutally torn down psychologically by this savage from the United States. You can conclude that this is an extreme example of using the art of persuasion in the wrong way.
